The Municipal Corporation, Amritsar started construction of 4-lane Elevated Road from Maqboolpura Chowk to Bhandari Bridge about 3.25 Kms in length and 17.2 mtr in width on a single pier and 2 lane Elevated Road from Ram Talai Chowk to Golden Temple 0.9 Kms., in length & 8.50 mtr to 12.5 mtr width with a cost of Rs. 210 Crores. This Project is also approved under Jawaharlal Nehru Nation Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) Ministry of Urban Development, Govt. of India for Rs. 149.49 crores under this scheme Govt. of India will bear the cost of this Project for Rs. 74.74 crores the balance amount will be bear by State Govt and MCA Rs. 29.89 crores and Rs. 105.35 crores respectivly . At present both Govt. of India & State Govt. releases their 1st installment of Rs. 18.68 crores & Rs. 7.47 crores to MCA.

At present 40% of the work of Elevated Road is completed at site and about Rs.81.99 crores ( as on 08-05-2008) has been spent and expected that this work will be completed up to 31.12.2008.
